The Atlas of the Brno Metropolitan Area shows the entire functional region of Brno and its hinterland from different perspectives. The administrative boundaries of cities and municipalities are still valid, but the reality, i.e. how we perceive and use the space in which we move, is another matter. It started to develop cooperation within its metropolitan area as early as 2008, and in 2015 it completed together with its hinterland the Integrated Development Strategy of the Brno Metropolitan Area for the application of the ITI tool. It is in the strategic projects of metropolitan areas that significant amounts of EU funds are invested. This is why the atlas is so important for the entire metropolitan area. It tries to capture facts that would be overlooked in a written text, and it attempts to do so in innovative cartographic ways.
The Atlas contains several main themes. You will find basic data on the delimitation of the Brno Metropolitan Area, on the population, including age structure, education or economic activity. The atlas also includes the topics of migration and housing, socio-economic typology of the area, labour and services, recreation or transport and technical infrastructure. The atlas also includes a mental picture of the territory or information on the Integrated Development Strategy of the Brno Metropolitan Area 2014-2020.
The basic element within each of the chapters is a double page spread including:
1) the main map with legend (scale 1:300 000),
2) accompanying text,
3) secondary graphics, such as a map diagram (scale 1:700 000) or a chart.
For the sake of clarity, the printed atlas also contains a cross-section with the administrative division of the municipalities.
