The annual number of visitors to the Zoo in Brno is in the hundreds of thousands. Children and adults are attracted by the many interesting animals. In addition to its recreational function and environmental protection, the zoo is also meant to educate. The zoo already does this today and will continue to do so through new educational points<\/strong> that will give visitors even more information about how nature works.<\/p>\n\n

Zoo Brno aims to educate and motivate the public to protect the environment. For this reason, it intends to introduce visitors to nature and offer them information that will help them learn how to really protect the environment. Thus, the zoo will have two educational points for school trips, groups with special educational needs, seniors and others who are interested in nature.<\/p>\n\n

One educational point called “People, Nature and Plants Side by Side<\/strong>” will be created in the area between the Children’s Zoo and the African Village. It will focus on domestic animals, domestication, breeding and evolution of plants and animals side by side with humans. There will also be displays of suitable natural habitats for the specific location, organic plant cultivation as well as experiential and educational elements.<\/p>\n\n

The second of the classrooms will be located on the site of the now inaccessible path leading from the souvenir shop behind the ticket offices to the former veterinary station. It will be called “People and Nature<\/strong>” and will be used for environmental education. Interested visitors will learn how and where to take care of nature, which they will also be able to try out, and then they can observe what wild animals are found in the area.<\/p>\n\n

Both sites will be equipped with outdoor furniture, shading, drinking fountains and wifi connection. Toilets will also be located in the lower classroom. The construction of the education points will cost CZK 21 million, with nearly CZK 15 million coming from the ITI tool as a subsidy.<\/p>\n\n

Zoo Brno has applied for a subsidy that would partially cover the costs of the reconstruction of the existing entrance<\/strong>, which will improve the transport accessibility of the entire area for visitors. In place of the existing so-called traditional entrance, it will offer 26 parking spaces, a new parking area for bus stops and bike racks. The project also includes the acquisition of furniture for rest and improving the safety of the entrance area to the zoo by separating the parking lot and the pedestrian walkway. The project also envisages planting greenery to create a pleasant microclimate for those waiting. A new covered entrance to the zoo with public toilets, an ATM and a navigation system will serve as a “big resting place” not only for visitors to the Zoo, but also for visitors to the nearby Brno Reservoir or for potential passers-by. This project will also be supported by a subsidy through the ITI tool.<\/p>\n\n
