Brno is one of the cities with the highest number of homeless people in the Czech Republic. The number of homeless people is constantly growing and according to the latest estimates, there are around 1 500 people in Brno. All the more valuable is the work of the Centre of Services for Homeless People located in Bratislavsk\u00e1 Street, which falls under the Diocesan Charity of Brno. In the coming years, the building of the centre will undergo a much-needed reconstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four registered social services are operated in building 58a on Bratislavsk\u00e1 Street in Brno, where the Centre is located. These are the St. Francis Field Service, which actively seeks out homeless people and tries to help them, the Day Centre for the Homeless, the Asylum House for the same people and the Night Shelter. Having all these services in one place helps those in need to deal with their situation more effectively. A potential client’s journey can literally lead “from the street” through the services of the centre to securing follow-up housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the technical condition of the building is not ideal and requires reconstruction. The renovation will reduce operating costs, as the entire building will be insulated, with new windows and photovoltaic panels. In addition, the renovation will provide wheelchair access to the building, which will also have a new lift, a canteen and separate facilities for the staff and an extension to the night shelter. After 15 years of operation, the centre certainly deserves these improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new modern building will soon open close to the centre of Brno and will offer a whole complex of services under its roof. The reconstruction of the building will also help to improve the character of the excluded area where the centre is located. It will contribute to its development and help remove the stigma associated with this part of the city. In addition, it is expected to contribute to better neighbourly relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Construction work on the building is estimated to cost almost CZK 130 million. This amount will largely be covered by a subsidy from the ITI, which will contribute nearly CZK 87 million to the reconstruction. The project is part of the integrated solution Support for people at risk of social exclusion in the Brno Metropolitan Area. The solution aims to increase the offer of social services in the metropolitan area and the implementation of the project will significantly contribute to its fulfilment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
